The reason for reminiscing may relate to non-closure; the more obvious relation lies in my exposure to "Sita Sings the Blues" by Nina Paley, which can be viewed in its entirety @Reel13.
The animation was emotionally based, the layered personalities of the main characters were expressed in each themed animation technique. My favorite being when Annette Hanshaw possessed Sita, her voice seemed to effectively echo the ancient story. The movie includes a modern ingredient, that being Nina Paley's destructive relationship with then husband, and her journey through heart break and inevitable evolution.
Before watching the movie, I'd read a review stating it's premise revolved around :unrequited love: I felt obliged to watch it, because this topic brings on a certain level of melancholy. I haven't :guiltily: been exposed to enough literature, but so far no one has been able to express the truly :primitive: nature of heart break. its surprising arousal. the immense sense of internal combustion. compounded by the need to release oneself of all ties to material things. you destroy all that is around you. the anguish is so great, that only the initial scream- a resultant of your shock- will suffice, as there is no such thing as vocal retribution. the entire world around you seems to fall back into jigsaw. the inferno continues and everything is vague and chaotic and you feel the need to run for centuries.
when you are back, bruised, you jump into a cold shower, dousing the final moments of fiery confusion. then the calm sets in, and now its breezy, and your skin feels so comfortable against the bear skin rug.
and you fall asleep.
SHOUT OUT!
